You hear these platitudes all the time:
“The grass is greener on the other side.”
“You never know what you’ve got until it’s gone.”
“I really miss being single. You’ve got it good.”
Chances are that you’ve heard this from at least one married couple you know, if not from a few couples.
I know it seems strange, since the men and women with bling on their ring fingers seem to have the best arrangements on earth. But Madame Noire reminds us that the haters who hate on single people are sometimes the very people who are in relationships. Sometimes those are great, perfect-looking relationships. But they like what we have and miss it.
We see our single friends delighting in the joys of freedom — flirting at happy hour, mid-week GNOs and, oh, the sweet sound of silence.
Yeah. I am a huge fan of silence. And playing whatever music I like loud as I want for as long as I want. Girls Nights Out are pretty fun, too.
If the grass is greener on the other side, then you should start watering the grass on your side. If it is good, whether single or married, then it is because those involved are working hard to make it good. Being single can be good but only because of working at it.
